Pine Oil สน

Name: Pine Oil
Scientific Name: Pinus sylvestris
Common Name: Pine Oil

Extraction Method
Steam distillation of the needles. An inferior grade oil is also extracted from the cones, twigs and wood chipping, but this is not recommended for aromatherapy.

Characteristics
A colorless to pale yellow and clear liquid. Strong, dry and balsamic with a camphoraceous undertone.

Main Constituents
Monoterpene hydrocarbons: pinenes, carene, dipentene, limonene, terpinenes, myrcene, ocimene, camphene, sabinene; also bornyl acetate, cineol, chamazulene, citral.

Properties
Antimicrobial, antineuralgic, antirheumatic, antiscorbutic, antiseptic (pulmonary, urinary, hepatic), antiviral, bacter-icidal, balsamic, cholagogue, choleretic, deodorant, expectorant, hypertensive, insecticidal, rubefacient, stimulant(adrenal cortex, circulatory, nervous), vermifuge. Diuretic, restorative.

Key Qualities
Reviving, Warming, Clearing, Refreshing.

Blends well with
Bergamot, cedarwood, cypress, eucalyptus, frankincense, juniper, lavender, lemon, rosemary, tea tree. Marjoram.

Safety Data
Non-toxic, non-irritant, possible sensitization.

Cautions
Always use in low concentrations of around 1 per cent.
