Extraction Method
Essential oil by cold expression of the peel of the nearly rips fruit.

Characteristics
A light greenish-yellow liquid with a fresh sweet-fruity, slightly spicy-balsamic undertone.

Main Constituents
Limonene, linalyl acetate 40%, linalool, bisabolene, pinene sequiterpenes, terpenes, furocoumarins.

Properties
Analgesic, anthelmintic, antidepressant, antiseptic (pulmonary, genitourinary), antispasmodic, antitoxin, carminative, digestive, diuretic, deodorant, febrifuge, laxative, parasiticide, rubefacient, stimulant, stomachic, tonic, vermifuge, vulnerary.

Key Qualities
Uplifting, Refreshing, Reviving, Calming Soothing, Regulating, Balancing.

Blends well with
Other citrus oils, angelica, cedarwood, chamomile, (German and Roman), clary sage, lavender, neroli, cypress, elemi, geranium, juniper, coriander, ginger, frankincense, oakmoss, rose, sandalwood, vetiver, basil, jasmine.

Safety Data
Certain Furocoumarins, notaldy bergapten, have been found to be photataxic on human skin which cause sensitiation and skin pigmentation when exposed to direct sunlight. Otherwise non-toxic and relativdy non-irritant.

Cautions
Expressed bergamot oil is phototoxic because it contains high levels of furocomarins, It should never be applied to skin shortly before exposure to natural or simulated sunlight. Aromatherapists are increasingly using the rectified version known as bergamot FCF (furocourmarinfree), which is non-phototoxic. It is also free of other non-volatile substances, such as waxes, which can irritate sensitive skin.
